Losses in electrical house wiring

Posted by Dave on January 23rd, 2004 08:48 AM

Am experiencing line losses on my old Bx (armored cable) house wiring. For example, if I plug in a 1500 watt hair dryer at the end of the circuit, the voltage drops to 112 from a no load value of 124. That's more than the recommended 5%, but is it significant? What should I look for, other than corroded connections in junction boxes?
