Kitchen cabinet refinish material

I am in the middle of a debate on which material is
better for refinishing kitchen cabinets.
1. Acrylic Lacquer, or
2. Conversion varnish.
Does anyone have any comments as to which is better?
(ie. less likely to yellow and more water resistant)
