Repair the line you cut into with a coupling. Then re-fill the system and purge the air from the convectors (radiators) An automatic feed valve will add the correct amount of pressure to your system without blowing the relief valve. Most low pressure residential boilers have their relief valve rated at 30 psi. The auto-feeds come set from the factory around 15 psi. It also makes bleeding the air a whole lot easier with 1 person. With a boiler of your age, proper routine maintenance is essential for proper operation and efficiency. A simple drain down once a year removes sludge and sediment that collects at the bottom. Your boiler will be working twice as hard to heat this sludged up water. If you have an older Bell and Gosset circulator pump, oiling the pump, motor and bearing assembly at the beginning of each heating season will prolong the life of the pump. There are boiler water treatment products available also. It's also a good idea to have a spare B&G coupler on hand, should the coupler fail at 2 AM in the morning. They cost less then $10.00 and trust me it will save you one big headache of going out to buy a part in 10 degree weather. I hope you get your system back on line soon. Good Luck, Tom
