Asbestos is a naturally occuring fiber that is invisible to the naked eye. Most insulation materials contained asbestos prior to 1975. It was mixed into all types of insulation from pipe covering, spray on insulation or block insulation. Pictures will not be allow you to determine if an insulation contains asbestos or not. Rather, if you are able to determine the manufacturer of the insulation product, you can then determine whether it contained asbestos.
