I want to add a few bedrooms and baths to my one story ranch house. The joists are only 2" x 6" (16 OC)about 12' span. My contactor is planning on adding 2x2 across and then another row of 2x2 across those. He says it will distribute the load. Is this a good method?? Sistering joists to the existing ones is really not an option with all the existing ducts and conduit running along them now.
