get up on roof?

can you get on roof? look at stain area or above from there, water will not run uphill, only down
look for crack in flashing, missing shingles, cracks in motor in brick chimmney
address problems as found with flashing cement
as per stain, fix leak first, then spot prime with zissners stain blocker primer , then paint, if you know what color and brand was used on ceiling to start with, you can probally get away with just painting the repair area with roller
if you dont know the paint and you dont want to see repair, your having to paint the whole ceiling, use a good paint like ben moore latex(not sold at home centers)
