very draining very slow in bath tub

I need to know how to get the drain plug out of the tub drain so that I can clean out any debris that may be causing the water to drain so slow. The plug is metal and it has the rubber suction ring on the under side of it and the tip on top to pull it up and down. Thanks for your help.
