Well I can imagine it would be very hard to do because the existing joists have shrunk and the new ones have not. Plus you probably have to twist the joists in place. I would shave just a bit off the bottom of the new joists at each end - just enough to fit them in - and then wedge them with plastic shims on each end. Use the plastic door shims because they are tough and will not compress. After a few weeks, hammer the shims in more because the new joists will have shrunk. It is not proper to take a lot off the bottom of the joists, but a small amount should not be a problem.
