black hardwood floors

Recently I contracted to have my caspian oak hardwood floors sanded and refinished with Minwax Ebony. Although the board that I was shown appeared to be a very dark brown it turned out BLACK!!! We hate it!!! The company did not use the Minwax they used a product that looked like chalk and they mixed it with water. I was told that it was "virtually impossible" to sand again to remove the color completely. Does anyone have any ideas?
