Shingle Over Roof Vents

I am currently looking to replace my roof and found that their is a vast amount of different types of ridge vents on the market. I live in south Louisiana and wind driven rain is a concern. Also of concern, is the mold issue and how ventalation can affect that. I have found that there are differnt net free areas from one type of vent to another and different types of cofigureations to help keep rain out.Can anybody help lead me in the direction to make an intelligent decision on what type of ridge vent to use.
