Why can't you use them? They make great cobblers, syrup, jelly, wine, or fresh snacking. High in vitamins and anti-oxidents. If you are worried about the "worms" in them, spray the tree with dormant oil now and with insect control/repellant when it buds and blooms (check with a nursery). The berries are probably good for the dog. His problem sounds like he likes them so much (as Scooby would say: 'Raggy, 'rook, ree reats ), he is just over eating.
And no, short of killing the tree, you cannot stop it from bearing. Maybe you can try the 'ol lawn mower to mulch them up. Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
