back splash and tiling

I've tiled 3 kitchen backsplashes myself. It is a very easy and worthwhile project (that is if you have the right equipment--a tile saw).

To solve your outlet problem unscrew the outlet and pull it out, away from the wall (the plug outlet piece not the box AND you should probably turn off the electricity when doing this).
Cut the tile to fit around the outlet hole (make a paper template first if you dont want to eyeball it). Now, go to you local hardware store & purchase 2 items - a 1/8 inch tile drill bit (about $2.00) and longer screws but the same width (1 1/2 inch x 6) flat head phillips screws (about $1.00). You'll have 2 kinds of outlets on your back splash - a 2 screw outlet and one screw outlet. the 2 screw outlets will require you to drill through the tile, where as the one screw outlets will just require the longer screws.

It's really much simpler to do than it seems. Hope that helps!!
