jason , have you checked that the engaging is going far enough into the strikerplate, could be worn spring, maybe you could pull off handles,and the two srews to slide out the mechenism, on that, remove the spring and carefully stretch out , not too much ,be hard to get back on,i've had to do this myself, too cheap to go buy a new door latch, lol, but hey it works,, well at least on mine. i'm assuming standard entrance doorknob, ps before taking it apart just pull on the engaging piece, if you can get some out, the spring is most def. weak or stuck, while you got it out, might as well oil it up some too (lite oil)
