Have used both and never had a problem with either. Usually I am more concerned with getting a compatible thickness in the underlayment, and at times that means using a thinner material like Hardiback (Hardi is available down to 1/4 inch, Durock is 1/2 inch minimum). I have never experienced delamination or cracking. Both seem to be high quality materials that give a stronger, better floor than if you did not use the backer. My skills preclude manually forming a mortar bed, so I rely on these products for every install to get a strong, level finish. If I had to select a favorite between the two, Hardi would get my vote for being lighter and easier to work. The smoother surface is easier to work with for me and gives plenty of adhesive strength. Both are good products.
