I have a periodic water problem in the basement of my 21 year-old house. With heavy rain a wet spot 1' x 1' forms at the base of the west wall in the basement. The foundation is cinder block, the basement in finished with drywall and carpet. Needless to say, it is starting to smell. I'm trying to avoid costly repairs. I consider myself fairly handy, but looking for guidance based on experinece. Any useful, do-it-yourself ideas to eliminate leak and smell?
