drywall thickness

the only problem with 1/2 inch is it easly gets damagedas it is thin. so on walls where you may physically bump your body, furniture, vacume cleaners...good chance of cracking, or putting holes

1/2 inch is more commonly used on ceilings

for walls, 5/8 is better as it much stronger

also check your local building department, the 5/8 is fire rated,will slow down fires, allowing time to escape in event of fire. there for is mandated my many local building codes and insurance companys

1/2 inch rock is not firerated
