driveway Posted by Harry on February 9th, 2004 02:33 PM In reply to Asphalt Driveway cost by Rick Cole on February 9th, 2004 09:55 AM [Go to top of thread]
kind of a hard thing to estimate for online. paving is just one of those things a contractor needs to do, not easy if even possible for a homeowner (ie, how would you truck 10 tons of hot pavement to your house?). Since the contractor is going to do it, he'll tell you the cost. And its not like you can say " no, you should only need 10 yards of bank run, so it should cost this". If hes doing it and warranteeing it, you can't cheap him on materials and expect the same warrantee. A lot of other factors affect the price like distance to paving plant, accessiblilty at your site, site prep, etc. You gotta have it looked at for a realistic price.
I also would like to point out all pavers are not the same, and there is skill to installing it, not just rake out and pack. it can be over compacted, too thick and/or too cool to compact enough. not graded right you get birdbaths, etc. Find a good local contractor, not one with no crew and uses all day laborers with rakes.
Having said all that, it kinda limits you to design, which may be all your question was in the first place, Im not sure. Lay out with spray paint on the ground. drive car in and out of garage, back out and turn around, and mark "footprint" on ground. connect the dots for driveway layout. Add optional parking stall get price with or without. Think about grading, where water will run to, you dont want it in your garage. Try library for municipal planning or landscape architecture for typical layouts. Good luck. Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
