cedar shakes Posted by dp on February 12th, 2004 09:40 AM In reply to Need advice on taking out an exterior door to make it a wall. by woodyak on February 12th, 2004 09:33 AM [Go to top of thread]
put the felt paper over the plywood, overlap so it sheds any water that may get behind the shinglezs, staples hold felt paper
dont worry about sealing the edged of ply, you have to allow for expansion. , the felt will keep wind out
to align, run a furring strip under the bottom edge of existing shingles, tack with nails, now rest the new shingles on top of furring strip and your have a nice line and it goes quick
dont try to match with stain , it never works. either paint(not stain, will still show)everything or let it weather natuarlly in a few years it wont be as noticable
as for web links??? try google.com or local library will have books with pictures on simple home repairs
