That old soft stuff will help, but not much. What you need is density. I would remove what you have and if you can find some Safe-N-Sound insulation (in Canada) or an equivaletn product in the USA, use that.
Then use metal sound isolation Z-strips across the studs and fasten 5/8" drywall to them. The drywall screws should not hit the wood.
