Fridge Odor

I agree.

My ex-boss (owner of an appliance service company) got an old fridge given to him which was in excellent shape except for a horrendous smell. He left it in his back yard with the doors open for 6+ months before most of the smell subsided. And that was an old model which still had a porcelain interior and not plastic!

If the freezer is a 'frost free' model (or the OP is actually talking about the freezer section of a refrigerator), there are lots of hidden air ducts which can't be cleaned without disassembly of the interior and some areas which it may not be accessible for cleaning at all.

They can try baking soda or commercial odor removers like at the following link but nothing is guaranteed to get all the odor out.
