I own a tree service in so cal. and willows are my favorite trees. to trim properly only remove about 20% of foliage a year . in particular dead and crossing branches. never cut the flowing branches with a hedge trimmer. and only thin it out never ever top it. and never leave a stub cut anywere on the tree
