Furing Strips to Concrete blocks

I am in a delima. The only part of the basement wall I am unable to complete with drywall is the area to the left of the stairs. Going into the basement this area is concrete blocks. I have heard that it is not good to nail furing strips into the concrete blocks, but see no other way. Is this ok? Or can I just attatch the drywall to the concrete block with glue? If I attatch the furing strip should I get a treated piece?

Also should I waterproof this part of the basement wall as well, even though it is not an outside wall(in butts up against the garage walls)?

Thank You,
Jason
