That is a load of bullshit. The original poster was referring to POLYurethane, not the toxic carcinogen urethane: there is a substantial difference between the two. The monomeric constituents may well be toxic, so care is required when applying the coat of polyurethane lacquer; incidentally, urethane itself is not used in the production of commercial polyurethane polymer.
