black marks on wood flooring

I have original wood doors in my 96 year old house, they appear to be pine, they could have been painted then stripped at any point in their existence. On the surface there are scattered areas of a black discoloration, it looks like either burn marks or mold, but it is difficult to tell what it is. Is there any way to clean these off with out ruining the wood, there is no coating (varnish, shelac) on the surface.
