Radiant Ceilings

In reply to ceiling heat by Eleanor on February 19th, 2004 08:56 AM [Go to top of thread]

Out of the thousands of electric radiant ceiling systems that we have been involved with I have never heard of one making noise. Without anything electrically being wrong (Is the noise electrical?) with your system the only other noise consideration would be expansion and contraction. The reason that would be so unusual is the ceiling should never exceed 110 degrees F. The heater cable is not allowed to exceed 2.75watts per foot. The absolute maximum allowed by code (and UL) per square foot is 22watts. In Chicago (here) I have never supplied a heater that has exceeded 15watts per square foot. The centers for the cable stringing should never be less than 1.5"O/C. The cable must avoid metal (Can lights, paddle fans, etc,,) by eight inches. If all those rules were kept in your installation I just don't see where the sound could be coming from.
