Load bearing column

To clarify a couple things in your post-
While tearing down a wall in the basement you uncovered a column. Yes, its load bearing. Moving it is not simple. The beam it is supporting is sized based on that column, and other columns spaced a certain distance apart. A structural engineer should be consulted to instruct you how to beef up the beam and remaining columns to safely span the the new spacing between columns.

Work will involve removing ceilings to work on beam, other walls that must be concealing columns, concrete work to beef up footings under columns.
