Range wiring

Doug - thanks and I was planning on GFCI's all around anyway. Another question for you though, we're replacing the old electric double oven and cooktop setup with one range. When I removed these appliances I noticed that there was a 3 wire system set up( 2 - #6 aluminum "hot" wires and 1 - stranded aluminum bare ground) all wrapped in plastic black sheathing. There is no "neutral" wire and the specs for the new range call for a neutral wire in all the hookup instructions. How do I go about installing the new oven? Does this have to be brought up to code or is it "grandfathered" as well? FYI - that line is on a 50 amp breaker and the house was built in 1976. Thanks.
