thermostat replacement

I attempted to replace/update a Weathertron thermostat(8 color coded wires) with a Hunter model 40070A (7 color coded hookups). When the wires didn't match up, I tried to reinstall the old thermostat, now that one doesn't work. I need to fix this problem before my husband gets home. Is there any help out there.
