In reply to Garage Floor Tiles by TA on February 22nd, 2004 01:13 AM [Go to top of thread]

read the manfactures recomendations as per installing self stickers on concrete

that will give you an answer

i would tell you that if armstrong gives you the go ahead on cement that the surface must be oil free. any oil or contamanates on that cement will surely lead to adhesion problems

also remember that the racedeck is made to hold up to oil and fulid spills down the road where armstrong and similar stick ons are designed for kitchen floors and will handle spills like milk and water easly(as long as its wiped up quiclky) but motor oil, trans fulid, power steerring and brake fulids and other leaks that all cars and suv's sooner or later drip may possibly ruin some tiles...make sure you buy and extra case or so for future replacements

to put it simple, stick with manfacture recomendations

BTW, i like the look of raw concrete when it comes to garage decor. i dont even like grey painted floors(besides hardend concrete dont take paint well, more often than not the paint peels under the hot tires of parked cars)

why not save the money , headaches in inventing a new way to cover cement garage floors and put your efforts into painting the garage walls/ceiling and possibly some lighting, shelves, storage hooks and other garage imprvements. that will surely improve looks , function

ever consider epoxy floor paint? i dont recomend but its an option

check manfactures recomdentions, check your local paint store(please stay away from home depot advice) for there products available, colors, materials and what not as far as cement floors

point of information, modern slab garage floors are usually a concrete with hardener additive, you can tell if its extreemly smooth and shiney

hardened cement is different than cement and you must spec this out when seeking materials at vendors. it has to do with ability of paints and glues to penerate and stick

let us know what you decide and how it works out
