I once asked a master electrician this exact question, and saved what he wrote me. Here it is:

"From a practical standpoint, you will probably never experience any problem, unless you have prolonged periods where the circuit is loaded to a maximum. In that case, the
insulation on the 14 gauge wire will eventually fail because of overheating. If you are concerned, once the breaker is identified, you can change it to one of 15amps capacity.
