And I suggest that you use a relatively safe stripper like Citristrip. It is non-toxic and biodegradeable. Personally, I will not use a methyl chloride based stripper because I feel that they are unsafe for home use.
You will need gloves (old dishwashing gloves are great as long as there are no holes) and eye protection, a cheap natural bristle brush for applying the stripper, and a stripping pad will be a big help. Keep kids and pets out of the area. The stripper will remove the paint from anything it touches so be careful using it or use masking tape or other protection for painted surfaces.
