Dodgeman, my guess is that the clumping kind just has some kind of water soluble glue on the surface and that will wash away with more volume of water. As far as the regular type turning to mush, it does take a fair bit of water to even dampen that. I've used it for miniature diorama bases so I have a little experience.

I think that the biggest potential problem is to let too much of it migrate to the next trap down the line. Getting it out of one trap for one fixture should be relatively simple. Getting it out of a major trap with water standing in a lot of fixtures sounds like a LOT bigger mess.
