I have bought a used complete heat system built in 2000. I about hit the floor when I was told the replacing of my electric WH and forced air furnace (sitting side by side in my mechanical room)would take 2 days of 2 guys at $150 per hour (about $4000). How many years of college do these guys have to work on this?

I just don't see that it could take this long but I guess a $150 per hour installers could work pretty slow.

Are there any tips to installing most of this myself or hiring a plummer to do the piping and a regular HVAC person to do the sheet metal? Where is the best place to get the extra parts I will need over the years.
