House too well insulated?

Posted by Doug on February 27th, 2004 09:27 AM

The contractor that I used to build my house in Vermont 10 years ago used fiberglass insulation and a plastic sheet barrier between the insulation and the drywall. This is the case for all exterior walls and the finished attic, where there is plastic behind the walls, knee walls, and the two-foot wide ceiling. We used nails to hang decorations on the walls. When moving the decorations, the nails were pulled out and were rusted. In the winter, when the house is closed-up for about six months, an acrid odor develops throughout the house. What do you think about installing a power vent system that could be turned on and off with a switch?
