Krylon, the aerosol paint maker, recently introduced a revolutionary spray paint that, with no priming, bonds to plastic materials such as outdoor furniture, shutters, patio furniture, children's toys, mailboxes, trash cans and PVC plumbing pipes. The magic doesn't stop at plastic. Krylon Fusion can be used on other hard-to-bond-to surfaces such as rubber, glass and tile.
Though great for durability, plastic products generally fade over time when exposed to the elements. Because they look old or worn, owners often toss them in the trash heap. Up until now, it's been tough to find a way to give them a fresh look.
To test the company's claim, a Beacon Journal reporter recently bought a faded, molded plastic child's swing at a flea market in Hartville and gave Fusion a try. Instead of sanding and priming, the toy was simply cleaned with an ammonia-based cleaner and sprayed. The paint went on evenly, didn't chip or peel, and gave the discolored plastic a new, high-gloss, finish.
The super-bonding spray paint, which dries in 15 minutes, has already earned awards from Popular Mechanics and Handy magazines.
I found this article at ohio.com in the beacon journal. Sounds good, I will be trying this soon before the bugs become active. Don't forget about all of insects that live behind those shutters.
The 12-ounce aerosol can of Krylon Fusion is available in 16 colors and can be purchased several places including some home improvement stores, Wal-Mart, Ace Hardware, True Value Hardware, Sears Hardware and Sherwin-Williams. Some stores are limited on colors, while others can order shades from Hunter Green to Sun-Dried Tomato. Prices range from about $3.97 to $5.99.
