no matter where it is.People seem to think that just because the wood is in the kitchen, it's treated differently. Yes, sand, fill, and prime. It also does'nt matter what kind of filler to use. I have been known to use drywall compound for filler on wood. My only suggestion would be to use an oil based finish paint. Kitchen cabinets, ( like bathrooms ), are wiped down a lot. I like oil for the smoothness and hardness. A palm sander does an great job and well worth the money. Enjoy your project, Ron J.
