reading a speed square

I understand flange pivot and degrees.

With the flange on right and inches on left and degrees on bottom, what is the line top and bottom to the right for?

Also how do I use the hip-val top cut figures and the common top cut figures.

I'm guessing they have something to do with pitch but I do not know how to use them. Can you inform me? Please. I have a feeling this square is probably going to be one of my favorite tools as soon as I learn all about it.
