The last test for exterior Posted by deecee on March 2nd, 2004 06:05 PM In reply to Paint and Consumers Report by dave on March 2nd, 2004 08:12 AM [Go to top of thread]
paints was in June 2002 issue. Top ratings were for Pratt & Lambert Accolade Eggshell flat at about $39 per gallon (but it didn't seem to have very good fade resistance) . Glidden paints were surprisingly rated pretty high and Sherwin-William paints were surprisingly rated pretty low. Surprising to me, anyways. Though not rated in the tests, I have been very very pleased with American Traditions exterior paints from Lowes (a Valspar product). I know their interior paints were rated a best buy, and my experience has born that out. I've painted my exterior trim with the American Traditions but can only attest that it has held up very well for two years on the sunny side of my New Mexico home. Check back in a few years. Expect everyone to jump on this with their own opinions. For example, Consumer Reports stopped testing Thompson's Waterseal because it was doing so poorly in their tests but some folks I know (definitely not myself) swear by the stuff.I think this is one of those things that falls in the Ford versus Chevy versus Dodge category. You might be best off by checking around with your neighbors to see how they have fared in a similar environment with different brands. Hope this helps. Luck, Kizmet Was this post helpful?
