It is as they say it is. Posted by homebild on March 2nd, 2004 08:15 PM In reply to New Treated Lumber by Don B on March 2nd, 2004 10:19 AM [Go to top of thread]
The new treated lumber chemicals are supposedly more environmentally friendly at the cost of being more corrosive to some metal fasteners.
It is not a ploy by fastener manufacturers or code officials, but may be the result of some overprotective Federal legislation.
Be that as it may, other than standard steel fasteners are required when used in direct contact with new treated woods.
Here is a helpful link by Simpson:

What I 'think' is that there was nothing wrong with the old treated lumber products because years of testing could never link treated lumber with any of the environmental or health concerns that the Government feared, but the Fed acted anyhow, so only really leaves this contractor with the choice to follow the Government's, the manufacturer's and Code Official's recommendations when it comes to treated lumber.
But frankly, it remains a selling point to get folks into other than treated lumber decks, for example, like redwood, cedar, or other naturally rot resistant woods that do not have such fastening constraints. Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
