The basement in the house I bought was finished with drywall ceilings and ugly square recessed light fixtures.
I removed the square fixtures and cut the drywall out then used 48"x12" recessed florescent fixtures. They are designed to be used in drywall ceilings. They are great, the light is excellent and the fixtures aren't ugly.
