Depending on where you are in the world and your weather, you should be in good shape at least if you are in northern North America. Jennifer, if your installer brought the wood into the house a few weeks prior to installation and let it acclimate to your humidity, then installed it correctly, you should have no problems. Since it's humidity that makes wood expand, your wood will be biggest in the summertime. The dryness that winter heating brings makes the wood as small as it's going to be and, if your floor was installed in our just out of the heavy heating season, it should be near its smallest. Therefore, you should not have gaps now and your floors should stay pretty tight for many years. Tongue and groove joints are there to allow for some movement and to keep the floor sealed from drafts between floors or the like.
