I imagine the golf ball could work ok, but depending on how far you drop it from, you might run a slight risk of cracking a corner if the tile is unsupported.
I have used a stick (dowel rod, good yardstick, etc.) about 3 feet long and let it fall 1 to 2 inches on the suspect tile. A solid tile will make a "poink" sound, and a loose or unsupported tile will make a "thunk" sound, and won't bounce back as far.
