You want several options Posted by Ron on February 18th, 2000 03:42 PM In reply to Basement Lighting Question... by S. Holthaus on February 16th, 2000 10:23 PM [Go to top of thread]
I have 6 floresent tubes above the workbench portion of my basement. They are 4 foot tubes. The 2 in the middle are a warm color tube, they have sort of a pink/red background color behind the white. The other 4 tubes are cool white. When on, they light the 24 x 20 foot room very well even though they are against one wall. Also, it helps if the walls reflect light. I sealed my block and finished off with a coat of semi-gloss white. However, when I watch TV in the basement, I want less brightness. I turn on several floor lamps and other lights if necessary. One type of lighting does not work in all situations, therefore you need to plan what you are lighting for. I like the Torchier lamps that have 300 watt halogen bulbs and a dimmer. Lowes was selling them for like $19 and they provide several types of ambiance in my family room. Just some stuff to consider...
