Terracotta Tiles Posted by Richard on March 7th, 2004 09:28 PM In reply to Terracotta tiles by Mark Oman on February 11th, 2004 06:40 PM [Go to top of thread]
Same question. My wife and I have moved to a house with a terracotta patio around the swimming pool area. The house and tiles are about 20 years old. The tiles are in great shape, a few cracked ones here and there, but nothing serious. The only problem is they are misty. They have lost their luster, and I would really like to get them back to their deep terracotta color appearance. I have tried washing them. Didn't work. I have doused them in vinegar. Didn't work. I have even tried muriatic acid on an out of the way few. Definitely didn't work either. I have tried stone cleaners, to no avail. Power washed them. Just a real slight improvement. It seems to me that some solution has to deeply penetrate them, and leave them with kind of a moist or damp appearance. Im assuming that some type of oil is needed to penetrate them, and then a sealer on the top to seal in the oil.
I'm determined to find something that works. I have heard that there is a terracotta stain, which just might be the ticket.
Stay tuned for an update.
