dimmer switch is warm to touch

Posted by mike on March 8th, 2004 08:23 AM

I have just installed a dimmer switch on a three way circuit ( two ways to turn light on / off ) .The dimmer operates fine but the switch plate feels very warm to the touch after the light has been on for a while. Did I wire it incorrectly ? or is this just the heat from the dimmer ( rheostat ?) Can anyone give advice. Is the dimmer device supposed to get very warm ?

thanks
