wallpaper removal Posted by Brian Livezey on March 8th, 2004 05:03 PM In reply to Nothing works! by Theresa on August 11th, 2003 09:12 PM [Go to top of thread]
I just spent the weekend removing wallpaper from the breakfast nook of our 80-year-old house. I reached bare plaster, so I figure that the bottom-most of the four layers of paper had been on the wall for 80 years.
The paper tiger (for scoring the wallpaper) is an absolute must. I started out using DIF gel, brushing it on. The work was slow and tedioues. When I ran out of gel, I went to the hardware store for more. They didn't have any gel, so I hesitantly got the liquid concentrate. I mixed the concentrate with HOT water in a sprayer, sprayed it on, waited 15 minutes, sprayed again, waited, and then scraped. It worked MUCH better than the gel.
I hope that others can learn from my experience.
