My mother's living room ceiling in her 1950 ranch-style home is a mess. A roof leak has left a big hole near the wall, there are cracks running the length of the ceiling, and it has a general warped or "hooved" appearance. We have a very limited budget, and need ideas for the most cost-effective improvement. The surface is real plaster with a hand-textured finish. Any ideas?
