I had same problems. Solved it with a good softner and whole house filter prior to the softner. For drinking I installed a good Reverse-Osmossis system. This water is now better than any bottled water I have seen.
You will have to have your water tested and a softner installed. Kinetico is a very good brand. ClearWater is overpriced and I don't want to discuss the rest.
