I have a fire place that is made with volcanic type rock with heavy grout lines (approx. 1-2" wide). I would like to find the best way to be able to cover over the rocks and be able to create a more modern looking fire place. I am trying to avoid tearing off all of the rock, I have an idea of framing it out and drywalling over the top of it to cover it up and would like to know if that is a safe and effective approach to this problem. Any types or advice would be very helpful.
