although it can be done, you would be taking some risk. Your new floor is only as good as the substrate, so best if the substrate was fresh backerboard.
good ole fashioned hammer and crowbar or whatever to take it up, but it can fly everywhere.
let's hope someone has a safer suggestion for removing.
